Major interdisciplinary research projects, international conferences, regional events - all this was planned for 2020, but much had to be cancelled, postponed or rescheduled with the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. Despite difficult conditions, the scientists of the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) continued to shape the Berlin research landscape and beyond in 2020.

In the Annual Report 2020, we present the various projects, events, and people involved. Some events at the beginning of the year - for example, the ECDF New Year's Reception and the second edition of the "Bits und Bäume" forum - could still take place at our premises, while other events such as the "Interactive Data Feminism" workshop then took place virtually.

But not only our events were influenced by the pandemic, Covid-19 also played a role in the research itself: How does the Corona pandemic change our working world? What are the effects of wearing face masks? How does the pandemic affect water and electricity use? These are the research questions our scientists* have been addressing over the past year, and the first results can be read in our Corona dossier.
